Compared to the primary-color filters, complementary-color filters have higher transmittance (wider spectral sensitivity), which enables the production of a more sensitive CCD. Thus a CCD with complementary-color filters is important in situations where higher sensitivity is required, such as when a subject is dark or the optical lens is slow. The DiMAGE F100 uses complementary-color filters to prevent desensitization that may result from the small unit cell size of the CCD.
